Synopsis
Adilse a vingt ans. Plutôt taiseux et sûr de lui. Il vit en banlieue. Sa vie se résume à trainer dans son quartier avec son meilleur ami, Mimid, drôle et attachant. Ce jour-là, son grand-père a disparu. Adilse le cherche dans la cité. À travers leur parcours, on découvre un territoire souvent décrié, où l’appétit de vivre prend pourtant le pas sur le béton.

Filming the Paris suburbs is a delicate move, not least the challenge of avoiding all cliché and sensationalism to look beyond the preconceived ideas of its ‘rough’ housing estates. “Slums Road” is one of the few films that succeed. Blending discretion with humour, it spends a day in the life of a young man in Aubervilliers, scanning the concrete jungle around him through his sharp, silent eyes. Aubervilliers-born filmmakers Carine May and Hakim Zouhani are on home turf here, distilling beautiful splashes of documentary realism into this timely work of fiction available on Tënk!
