Synopsis

Pierre Perrault’s L'Oumigmag Ou L'objectif Documentaire marks a decisive break from his earlier work. With man and words no longer the focal point, here he ventures on a new quest, this time to track down the Oumigmag. Spanning seven trips over five years, the film documents his attempts to get close to this mythical creature whose legend has straddled the centuries. With no characters or dialogue, for the first time Perrault relies solely on voices-off to present this beautifully poetic reflection on the art of documentary, tinged with humour.
