Programmed by Annick Peigné-Giuly
A film-map in the maze of cul-de-sacs that make up the town (Algiers and the surroundings) and Algerian society. It is a film in which the young people of Algiers try to say how much powerlessness and renunciation make up their existence.
In this third short film by Tariq Teguia, we meet Rachid Amrani, who went on to play Kamel in “Rome plutôt que vous”, Kader Affak who plays the main part in “Inland”, and Fheti Garès, who plays the fundamentalist in “Rome plutôt que vous” as well as a role in “Inland”… but this isn’t some kind of casting for his future feature films but the first faces and initial form he gives to his research into the people trapped in the Algerian enclave. Here, it’s through words that these young Algerians express the confinement, the aimlessness, the boredom and the desire to get a boat and cross the Mediterranean… Tariq Teguia sees them as “great pessimists – but hyperactive pessimists!”
